Community
The East Manchester Academy aims to be the very hub of the community, providing extended services for young people, families and the wider community. The Academy also has extended opening hours, outside of normal school times so that its buildings and grounds are available for community groups, clubs and adult learning facilities. The Academy is also home to a fantastic new district library for the benefit of all the community.
Admissions
From September 2012, The East ManchesterAcademy will become its own Admissions Authority and its Governing Body will be responsible for admission arrangements.
The Academy has always aimed to be a community hub, serving the particular needs of the North East District with a high standard of provision and, in doing so, provide Manchester pupils with greater choice of secondary education and reduce the perceived need to seek access to schools in other Local Authorities.
During the course of the first year of admissions, there have been some concerns raised that many children from the North East District were unable to secure places at The East Manchester Academy because the current straight line distance policy put them at a disadvantage compared to those in the Central East District which was already served by three other secondary schools.
After careful consideration, we agreed to consult on admission arrangements for The East Manchester Academy. Consultation has now taken place and the new Admission Policy document has been agreed by the Secretary of State.
